Whitney, the highest peak in the continental United States, the John Muir Wilderness, Mammoth Lakes, and the Ancient Bristlecone Pines which the oldest known trees in the world. Attractions

While in Independence make sure to visit the Manzanar National Historic Site. This preserved internment camp stands in remembrance of over 120,000 Japanese Americans who were imprisoned there during World War II. Independence is also home to the Eastern California Museum which includes unique exhibits including the artistry of local Owens Valley Indians, as well as two historic home sites.
