Overview

When you reach the summit of Panorama Dome, you’ll understand how it earned its namesake. The summit rises to almost 9,000 feet and boasts 360 views of the entire Mammoth Lakes Basin.

Location

The Panorama Dome is located in the Inyo National Forest, just outside of Mammoth Lakes. From town, take Highway 203 and drive 3.5 miles to its junction with Lake Mary Road. Keep straight on Lake Mary Road 2.5 miles to the trailhead. Find parking on the roadside.

Panorama Dome is best accessed from May through November.

Hiking
The hike to Panorama Dome’s summit is perfect for the entire family. At just under a mile, and less than 250 feet of elevation gain, the walking is easy, and once you reach the top, 360 views, including vistas of Mammoth Lakes, the Owens Valley, Crowley Lake, and the entire Mammoth Lakes Basin are sure to please.

Mountain Biking
Though you can’t bike on the Panorama Dome Trail, Panorama Dome Loops is an easy single track ride with great views. The trail runs 4 miles around the dome, and gains only 300 feet, so anyone with a bike can enjoy the trip. Additional sites include the historic water flume and original Mammoth settlement.
